    The first invasion phase

    The opening phase of the full-scale invasion was defined by rapid Russian advances, the failed push on Kyiv, and a shift toward a more static battlefield once Russia could not secure a quick collapse.

    The eastern and southern battlefields

    The war then settled into attritional fighting in the east and south. Cities, transport nodes, and fortified lines became the main targets rather than deep maneuver.

    What changed by 2025

    By 2025, both sides relied more on drones, long-range strikes, and layered defenses than on large armored breakthroughs. Progress was still measured in kilometers, but the cost of every move kept rising.
